HOBAS Pipe Systems for Trenchless Applications

Pipe Jacking:

When pipelines need to be laid in densely populated areas, protected natural habitats or beneath heavily frequented roads, jacking is often the least disruptive solution. Thanks to centrifugal casting, HOBAS gravity as well as pressure pipes are manufactured with the high compressive strength and wall thicknesses required to reliably withstand the jacking forces.

With their smooth, almost non-absorbing exterior surface, tight outer- diameter tolerances and comparably light wall structure, HOBAS Jacking Pipe Systems are suitable for very long and even curved drives and therefore have an edge over other materials. Over 900 m, for example, have been jacked on a bend with HOBAS De 3000 Pipes on one single drive in Warsaw, Poland.

Apart from providing excellent hydraulic properties the mirror-like smooth inner surface is easily cleaned and disinfected adding jacking to the installation possibilities also for potable water systems where hygiene plays a major role.

The pipes small outside diameter in relation to the inside diameter leads to an array of advantages. For instance smaller machines are required for the pipes, which means lower equipment and lease costs; expenses for construction site and thrust pit preparation can also be substantially reduced. Adequate joints and fittings for every application ensure a complete leak-tight system.

Curved Pipe Jacking:

HOBAS GRP Jacking Pipes have unique benefits when it comes to curved pipe jacking routes. The high compressive strength and the elasticity of jacking pipes are especially favorable features. The centrifugally cast HOBAS GRP Jacking Pipe is because of the elasticity of the GRP material able to react to eccentric loads by means of spigot adaption. The contact between the pipes for the transmission of jacking forces remains this way and there is no need for wood packers.

Relining Rehabilitation:

When spot repairs on deteriorated pipelines are no longer feasible, authorities are confronted with having to decide between rehabilitation and pipe replacement. The latter solution has the disadvantage of being very costly and disruptive to urban areas where the largest sewer networks are located.

Relining is a process whereby the existing pipeline, instead of being replaced, is relined with a new pipe of a smaller diameter to refurbish the original pipe for continued service. Being light in weight, corrosion resistant, easily jointed due to push-together joints and rigid to resist grouting forces, HOBAS CC-GRP and NC Line Systems are ideal for this application. A maximal mass flow is above all ensured thanks to the smooth inner surface (small roughness coefficient) and the relatively light wall structure of HOBAS Pipes.
