The 49er

The 49er is a new Olympic sailing class, having given its Olympic debut in 2000 in Sydney. The race courses being mostly situated near ports and beaches, the 49er is the most spectacular class: Highest physical as well as mental demands from the sailors, most modern design of boat and sails (spinnaker of 39 m²) enable this high-performance-dinghy to reach maximum speed of up to 65 km/h or 35 knots.
