HOBAS Testing Laboratory according to ISO/IEC 17025

The HOBAS TechCenter in Wietersdorf, Austria, is the HOBAS Group’s main testing laboratory. In the TechCenter premises, product tests are carried out to prove various norm conformances for all HOBAS Organizations as well as for external customers. On approximately 1400 m² and by means of more than 30 different testing methods, we make sure that our clients receive only the best product solutions.

Since January 2013, the laboratory is accredited according to the international standard ISO/IEC 17025:2007 (General requirements for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories). The laboratory accreditation provides a formal recognition of competency, thus ensuring reliable testing and measurement services to the customers. To maintain this recognition, the HOBAS TechCenter is periodically evaluated by the responsible accreditation body, the Austrian Federal Ministry of Economy, Family and Youth. Test reports for customers under the scope of the accreditation are issued with the official accreditation symbol (see logo on the right).

Benefits of the ISO/IEC 17025 Accreditation

The accreditation according to the international standard ISO/IEC 17025: 2007 is internationally recognized as a reliable indicator of technical competence. Some of the key elements and benefits are:

  • International Recognition: The laboratory accreditation provides a formal international recognition of competency, thus ensuring reliable testing and measurement services for customers. A recognized testing system offers reassurance that the products and the services delivered comply with the highest international requirements.
  • Adherence to the standard: The HOBAS TechCenter is regularly evaluated by the responsible accreditation body, the Austrian Federal Ministry of Economy, Family and Youth.
  • Transparency: Information about the accreditation is available online, within the Directory of Accredited Laboratories of the accreditation body.
  • Repeatability and Reproducibility: Measurements and analyses are systematically performed and their repeatability and reproducibility is evaluated.
  • Measurement and Analysis of Uncertainty: ISO/IEC 17025 requires the estimation and reporting of measurement uncertainty. These calculations offer clients and decision makers a deeper, more detailed understanding of test results. Measurement uncertainty can also be seen as a risk management tool.
  • Proficiency Tests: One way of demonstrating technical capability is to participate in mandatory inter-laboratory proficiency tests. The quality of the results can thereby be compared and evaluated.
  • Trust and Confidentiality: One main issue of an accredited laboratory is the confidentiality of customer information. The laboratory has the responsibility to keep all customer information in safe custody. ISO/IEC 17025 contains several clauses that describe the respective requirements.
  • High-Level Qualification and Training: Technical requirements include the training and qualification of personnel. Training plans (and the evaluation thereof) are put in place and verified annually.
