Die Polymermatrix besteht \u00fcblicherweise aus einem Epoxidharz, Vinylesterharz oder einem thermisch aush\u00e4rtbaren Polyesterharz. Das Harz verleiht dem Produkt Umwelt- und Chemikalienbest\u00e4ndigkeit, ist Bindemittel f\u00fcr die Fasern der Laminatstruktur und bestimmt die Form eines Werkst\u00fccks aus GFK. Die Glasfasern sorgen f\u00fcr Festigkeit. Sie k\u00f6nnen zuf\u00e4llig oder gezielt angeordnet werden. Die gebr\u00e4uchlichste Art von Glasfasern f\u00fcr GFK ist E-Glas, auch Aluminium-Borosilikat-Glas genannt.
